January 1st, 1915
Workers' Compensation Act passed.
Workers trade right to sue employer for a guarantee of income for on-the job-injury, regardless of fault.

January 29, 1946
Rand Formula requires an employer to deduct a portion of the wages from all members in a bargaining unit, whether union members or not, to go to the union as dues, known as a checkoff. Under federal and most provincial labour relations laws, provisions are in place when certain conditions are met.

February 14, 1994
Bill 49 in Ontario extends the right to strike to the Ontario Public Service. The Social Contract Act(Bill 48) was tabled the same day as Bill 49. Bill 48 terminated collective bargaining in the Ontario public sector for three years.

February 26, 1996
OPSEU begins a five week strike of 65,000 members. The labour movement raises $16,000,000 in interest-free loans to support the workers.
